Extending die life allows for less processing of new die-heads to replace worn or damaged die-heads. This extended lifetime saves in overall cost of dies, and it improves the efficiency of by repairing the worn or damaged dies.

Project: Forging Process Improvement Using Intensive Quenching

Objective:
Extend the die-head life, which allows for less processing of new die-heads to replace worn or damaged die-heads.

Solution:
Investigate and evaluate novel HEAs, CCAs, and SMAs as coating materials using direct metal deposition additive manufacturing techniques for forging die repair. Successful execution of this project would drastically improve die life, reducing both costs and lead-time for the forging industry and DOD.
